Background
LAU Medical Center-Rizk Hospital (LAUMCRH), a major academic hospital in Achrafieh, Beirut, partnered with XRAPY SARL to explore how virtual reality can be integrated into pediatric clinical care. XRAPY, a Beirut-based company specialising in AI and VR applications for mental health, conducted a hands-on training session for the hospital's psychologists and nursing staff.
The Deployment
The session introduced clinical staff to XRAPY's RCOVR platform, a virtual reality exposure therapy (VRET) application available on the Meta Quest headset. RCOVR creates hyper-realistic, customisable 3D environments that allow therapists to guide patients through controlled exposure scenarios while monitoring responses in real time via a clinician dashboard. In the context of pediatric care, the demonstration focused on using VR to reduce children's anxiety during hospital stays and procedures, offering psychologists a new interactive tool to support patient healing.
Approach
Participating psychologists and hospital staff experienced RCOVR firsthand, learning how to set up and manage VR sessions and how to adapt the platform's environment library to pediatric cases. The session was facilitated by the XRAPY team, led by CEO Fouad Monzer (a clinical psychologist) and CTO Adrian Boutros.
Context
The initiative reflected LAUMCRH's commitment to adopting advanced clinical technologies and XRAPY's broader mission of making technology-driven mental health support accessible across Lebanon's healthcare system.
