Background

Yokosuka City, in Japan's Kanagawa Prefecture, has run its "Metaverse Yokosuka" tourism-promotion project since October 2023, building official virtual worlds that recreate local landmarks such as the Dobuita shopping street and Mikasa Park. Launched on VRChat, those worlds have drawn more than 240,000 cumulative visitors, and free downloadable "Sukajan" 3D data has been downloaded over 140,000 times.

The Sukajan ("souvenir jacket") is a satin, embroidery-decorated jacket that originated in Yokosuka in the post-war era and has become an enduring part of the city's fashion heritage.

The deployment

Bringing the initiative to Roblox, Yokosuka City is distributing an official "Yokosuka City Sukajan" as a free 3D item for player avatars. The item recreates the jacket's signature embroidery and satin texture as wearable Roblox apparel, offered in two designs: Lavender and Blue.

Distribution begins at 11:00 on 27 July 2026 inside the Roblox experience "Cozy Life," where a dedicated Sukajan booth lets players claim the item at no cost. Supply is capped at 300 units — 150 of each design — handed out first-come, first-served until stock runs out.

Partners

The project is delivered with Ignisus Inc. (English brand "ignithus"), a Tokyo studio specialising in creative production for game platforms and XR, which handled the 3D modelling and planning. Yokosuka City operates the initiative and supplies the civic and cultural branding.

Objective

Roblox reaches a worldwide audience of more than 150 million daily users, and the city frames the giveaway as a way to introduce Yokosuka's history and culture to Gen Z and overseas players. Ignisus and the city describe the item drop as a starting point, with plans to explore in-metaverse tourism experiences and tie-ins with real-world events.
