Asociația ARTBYTE developed “București: Memoria în Realitate Virtuală” (Bucharest: Memory in Virtual Reality), a cultural education project that uses VR to explore Palace Square and Revolution Square in Bucharest. The project aims to prompt questions about history by letting participants examine familiar places through their buildings, proportions and atmosphere.
Participants use VR headsets, and a project-team interviewee describes going outside to Revolution Square as part of the experience. A free public presentation was scheduled at the National History Museum of Romania (MNIR) on 17 October 2026.
Testing and participation
The sources report several measures of project activity, with different populations and reporting dates:
- MNIR reported on 14 October 2026 that 357 direct beneficiaries, including children, adolescents and adults, had participated in project activities and tested the VR experiences.
- In a DCNEWS RO interview published on 17 October 2026, a project-team interviewee said the team had visited 10 Bucharest high schools across the city’s six sectors to test the experience before the opening.
- The same interviewee reported 356 feedback responses from young people following school testing.
- The interviewee also described a 15-person development team with roles including programming, 3D modelling and design.
Funding and partners
ARCUB – the Cultural Centre of Bucharest Municipality – funded the project through its 2026 “București în premieră” cultural programme. The named project partners were:
- MNIR, also the venue for the scheduled public presentation.
