Central Taiwan University of Science and Technology has opened an immersive interactive wall for dental technology students at its AR Smart Health Sciences and Metaverse Center in Taichung, Taiwan. The installation combines projected 3D tooth models with touch interaction to help students understand tooth anatomy and develop the spatial understanding needed for dental technology.
Students touch the wall to enter an oral environment and explore the structures of incisors, canines, premolars and molars. They can rotate the models through 360 degrees to examine tooth morphology from different angles, while the system displays information in both Chinese and English. Deployment photographs show the dental models projected across adjoining walls.
The university presents the installation as a way to connect professional knowledge with clinical practice and build students’ digital capabilities. Dental technology and materials teacher Lin Cheng-wei describes the curriculum’s use of AR as a move from one-way learning with flat images and physical models toward an interactive experience, intended to strengthen three-dimensional understanding and interdisciplinary thinking.
