Chinmaya Mission used a holographic avatar of Swami Chinmayananda at the inauguration of the Chinmaya Amrit Mahotsav Global Sammelan in New Delhi on 23 October 2026. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who inaugurated the event, interacted with the avatar, which responded to him and expressed happiness during the exchange.
The avatar appeared as a life-size seated figure inside an upright glass display cabinet at Bharat Mandapam, the venue hosting the event. Modi later spoke of the experience, saying the technology made it more lively and that seeing Chinmayananda through his hologram made him feel as if he had travelled back 33 years.
The event
The Sammelan is a three-day global conference, held from 23 to 25 October 2026 at Bharat Mandapam, organised by Chinmaya Mission to mark 75 years of the Chinmaya Movement. The hologram is documented at the inauguration on the opening day. The conference is expected to bring together more than 9,000 participants from India and abroad; that figure is the expected attendance of the conference as a whole, not a count of people who used the hologram.
