Clinique de Vitrolles in France is testing augmented reality to help surgeons place knee prostheses. Surgeons Alban Merger and Marc Bernat began experimenting with the technique in September 2026.

Measurements calculated during the operation appear directly in front of the surgeon’s eyes through an AR headset. The guidance is intended to help the surgeon adjust their movements to each patient’s anatomy.

La Provence reported on 13 October 2026 that approximately 10 knee replacement operations had already used the device. The two surgeons were still evaluating its benefits.
