Dumbworld’s HOME is scheduled for Belfast International Arts Festival at Studio Ulster from 28–31 October 2026. Originally produced by Dumbworld and Our Place in Space, the installation combines recordings from a care home with film projected onto a suspended scale model of the building.
Composer Rory Friers gathered conversations, songs and everyday moments with residents and staff at Glendun care home in Cushendun over six months. His installation page dates that source-gathering period to 2022; in a BBC News NI report published in October 2025, he described visiting once a week to spend time with residents and staff and record conversations.
Film, model and sound
Created with filmmaker Ross McClean, the accompanying film is projection-mapped onto the model, allowing the building to shift between physical place, remembered space and moving image. The artist lists the model’s dimensions as 130 × 115 × 31.5 cm. Northern Ireland Screen’s Digital Film Archive supported the archive content. The artist’s October 2025 post credits Visual Spectrum Studios for projections on the original installation.
For the scheduled 2026 presentation, Belfast International Arts Festival credits Friers with a spatial-audio realisation and lists a ten-minute duration.
