Dundalk Institute of Technology and WheelWorks Arts are leading ImmerseHER, a cross-border programme in which young women will co-create digital and physical artworks rooted in Irish cultural heritage. Its planned augmented reality and virtual reality activities aim to develop creative digital skills, confidence and connections to heritage.
ImmerseHER is funded by the Special EU Programmes Body through PEACEPLUS Changemakers. The first cohort completed an analogue induction focused on visual brainstorming, ideas and mark-making before the technology activities were due to begin.
Planned artworks
The programme combines traditional materials and cultural storytelling with immersive media. Planned work includes:
- An augmented reality quilt, with screen printing on Irish linen and AR storytelling layered over the finished textiles.
- A 360° heritage film exploring cultural memory and industrial heritage.
- A VR world and digital fashion collection inspired by Irish heritage textiles.
Programme schedule
The published schedule lists the first bootcamp for 8–10 September 2026, followed by further bootcamps on 29–30 October 2026, 15–16 January 2027 and 18–19 March 2027.
