Escola Superior de Enfermagem de Lisboa (ESEL) is using virtual reality in Anatomy and Human Physiology teaching. The school reported that its first classes using the technology took place on 26 November, allowing more than 100 first-year students to experience immersive views of three-dimensional anatomical structures. These sessions formed part of VisuMed 5G and STEP+.
ESEL’s VisuMed 5G project aims to implement an immersive system for viewing and interacting with detailed medical, anatomical and clinical models. Its planned use of 5G connectivity is intended to let nursing students access these models from different locations, reducing geographical and scheduling barriers. The reported classroom sessions establish that VR teaching has begun; they do not establish the extent of remote access or report measured learning outcomes.
Project funding
Portugal’s public transparency portal lists the following figures for VisuMed 5G:
- €102,250 in total project investment and non-repayable funding.
- €10,220 in funding paid at the time of the captured record.
- €0 in loan financing.
The portal records an administrative project period from 1 January to 31 December 2025. These funding dates do not establish when classroom deployment began.
