EssilorLuxottica is co-innovating with SAP to pilot AI-driven use cases based on SAP's Joule assistant, bringing it into smart glasses as a hands-free, voice-driven interface between employees and enterprise systems. The company runs its retail network of 15,000 stores on SAP S/4HANA Retail.
Using voice interaction, store associates can access inventory and availability data in real time, receive contextual customer insights, and spot opportunities for personalized service such as cross-sell and upsell recommendations. EssilorLuxottica is initially exploring two applications: supporting technicians in the field with real-time guidance and documentation, and empowering associates on the retail floor.
The potential was demonstrated live at SAP Sapphire Madrid, where AI-enabled glasses helped a store associate identify a returning customer, retrieve their purchase history, reorder products and suggest add-ons within a single conversation. According to SAP's account, the use cases are in a test phase and were developed in two weeks, with the teams targeting commercialization of both pilots by the end of the year.
The pilots are described as planned and in testing; the source does not report store or field deployments in operation.
