Fox Sports is growing its use of augmented reality graphics in its World Series broadcast to help viewers visualize the game. The new AR set-up is scheduled to debut with Game 1 at American Family Field in Milwaukee on 23 October 2026.
The graphics combine new camera placements, MLB Statcast data and visualization technology from Bolt6 and Virtual Eye to illustrate swing and pitch trajectories. Fox analyst John Smoltz is set to use the tool on air to discuss strategy.
How it works
New this year are two Nucleus 4K cameras along each base line. Their views are paired with MLB Statcast data and the Bolt6 and Virtual Eye visualization technology. According to Mike Davies, Fox Sports EVP of Technical and Field Operations, MLB then adds lines and tracings to the tracked balls, so that once overlaid, viewers can see different release points and ball paths.
Wider camera suite
The AR graphics sit alongside Fox's usual World Series camera package, which returns in full, from drones to dirt cams. Davies noted that the popular ump cam also returns. An 8K camera from Nucleus will serve as the classic high home camera on an upper level behind home plate to cover the whole field.
The AR visualizations are planned for the broadcast and had not yet aired at the time of the report.
