Fuji Television Network turned its Run for Money variety show into a free-roam VR attraction, Run For Money Liminal World: Escape in VR Space. Players wear VR headsets and move around freely, rather than sitting, while hiding from and escaping the show's masked Hunters in empty, eerie environments modelled on "liminal spaces". Fuji TV developed it to bring the show's experience to audiences overseas.

The public run in Tokyo was scheduled from 27 June to 27 September 2026 at ABAL, on the 6th floor of DiverCity Tokyo Plaza in Odaiba. No later operation is evidenced. Fuji TV presented the attraction at TIFFCOM in Tokyo on 29 October 2026 and said it will rent it to broadcasters and businesses overseas; no renter, venue or dates have been named.

How it works

Players share one virtual space and have to avoid Hunters that patrol deserted rooms and corridors, with an on-screen timer counting down the time remaining. Fuji TV said operators can set how many Hunters appear and when, which lets them ease the attraction for elementary school students, with whom the show is especially popular.

Tokyo run

  • Adult tickets were listed at ¥2,700 on weekdays and ¥3,000 on weekends and holidays.
  • The experience was listed as lasting approximately 30 minutes.
  • The event was organised by the Run for Money Liminal World production committee.

Overseas rental offer

Fuji TV said the rental format fits a conference room of about 100 square metres, holding 20 to 30 players at once in sessions of 15 to 20 minutes. It described the rental cost as low and said it wants the rental to ease adoption alongside the show.

Promotion

Fuji TV tested the Hunters with a prize challenge offering ¥1 million to each player who evaded them to the end. It said about 5,000 people applied in one week and about 200 were chosen by lottery to take part.

Ryohei Aoki of Fuji TV's Live Entertainment Department presented the attraction in a TIFFCOM 2026 session on expanding the show into a VR location-based entertainment business.

Quotes

“Run For Money Liminal World ~Escape in VR space~ recreates the concept of “liminal spaces”—places that should normally be bustling with people, yet stand eerily empty. The unsettling atmosphere and tension of Hunters lurking in these deserted environments bring a new dimension of suspense and excitement to the experience, while capturing the thrilling essence of the original Run for Money.”
