Heritage Malta, with Magna Żmien and the University of Malta, is organising PolyKosmik: Materiality and Memory in the Digital World, an exhibition scheduled to run from 30 October to 8 November 2026 in the Community Space at MUŻA, Merchant Street, Valletta. It presents outcomes of Task 1.3 of the EU-funded Horizon Europe project IMPULSE, for which the three organisations contributed a programme of participatory research.
The exhibition brings together a series of virtual worlds developed by interdisciplinary teams across the IMPULSE consortium, drawing on digitised collections, historical research, artistic practice and emerging technologies. Visitors are due to encounter 3D-scanned objects, archival images, audiovisual recordings and historical documents, reinterpreted through immersive storytelling, spatial composition, sound and interaction.
Visitor experience
Visitors will be able to explore the project's experimental worlds through:
- VR headsets
- laptops
- audiovisual presentations
- tactile boards and physical artefacts
Opening
The exhibition opens on Friday 30 October 2026 at 19:00. The opening evening includes Għadni Ħajja | Performing Heritage, a live-streamed performance from the Ġgantija Prehistoric Site in Gozo that combines movement, music and virtual reality.
IMPULSE is a Horizon Europe project coordinated by Jagiellonian University in Poland. The exhibition had not yet opened at the time of the sources, so the programme described reflects the organisers' plans.
