Iberdrola has developed an immersive virtual reality experience to train heat-pump (aerothermal) installers and to attract new professionals to the electrification sector. Wearing VR headsets, users enter a digital recreation of the company's Espacio Instalador, a technical space, and move through solutions related to decarbonisation.
The tool was shown at Iberdrola's space at the 36th CONAIF National Congress, held on 1 and 2 October in Salamanca, where Castile and Leon industry minister Juan Carlos Suarez-Quinones tried it. Iberdrola describes the environment as safe, innovative and highly interactive, a way to gain practical knowledge of heat-pump installation and speed up specialisation in the sector.
Scale and next steps
The Espacio Instalador is offered to installer training centres through three areas: heat pumps, electric vehicle charge points and solar photovoltaics. More than 260 centres across Spain already have access to it. Iberdrola has stated its intention to extend the immersive tool to the country's other training centres and to make it available to installer companies' training centres. The sources describe a presentation and a plan, so rollout to training centres is not yet confirmed as operating.
