IDEAL Centre d'Arts Digitals in Barcelona's Poblenou district is set to open Dinosaurium on 6 November 2026, a route that lets visitors walk among real-size dinosaurs. The experience combines large-format immersive projections, virtual reality and interactive installations, with scientific advice from researchers at the Catalan Institute of Paleontology Miquel Crusafont (ICP). The City of Barcelona's event guide lists a scheduled run from 6 November 2026 to 5 January 2027.
The opening reopens the IDEAL space after eight months of renovation. Ara reported that the route covers more than 2,000 m² across seven spaces.
What visitors will experience
- An updated immersive projection room, with life-size dinosaurs on the walls.
- A metaverse in which visitors walk among dinosaurs at real scale and interact with them, with reactions created using artificial intelligence.
- A new 360° virtual reality room, built from 400 m² previously used internally, that recreates the asteroid impact behind the dinosaurs' extinction.
- Interactive spaces where visitors take part in virtual excavations, explore the Earth's geological layers and create their own dinosaur reconstructions.
The route also includes fossil reproductions, an original soundtrack by Rafel Plana performed by the Budapest Symphony Orchestra, and fragrances created to evoke the Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous periods.
IDEAL director Jordi Sellas describes the 360° experience as one that questions visitors directly as protagonists of the story.
