iGA Istanbul Airport introduced CİGA, a virtual 3D shopping companion in the Istanbul Airport mobile app, by April 2022. Passengers open the AR tab after logging in and follow the character around the international terminal shopping area. As it approaches a store, a pop-up shows its name; tapping reveals store information. Participating shops can also provide campaign offers and discount codes.

The service aims to help passengers discover retail outlets and make shopping easier and more engaging. iGA’s original announcement identifies the Bosphorus area. A later airport CEO case study describes CİGA as an AR shopping companion, while an official 2025 update confirms passengers can explore retail areas with virtual 3D objects.

A June 2024 SAS case study places in-app AR guidance within a broader app modernization undertaken with SAS and Partner Republic. Its revenue and membership improvements apply to that wider digital programme, not measured AR-only results. The AR implementation’s engine, SDK and specialist developer are not identified.
