Illinois Holocaust Museum & Education Center made three virtual reality documentaries featuring Holocaust survivors’ stories and testimony available for home viewing on October 8, 2026. The programme extends the museum’s work to preserve and share Holocaust testimony to audiences beyond its physical venues.

Produced by the museum in collaboration with East City Films, the documentaries use 360-degree video, 3D environments, motion capture and spatial sound. Viewers encounter reconstructed moments from each survivor’s life, guided by that person’s memories and testimony.

Supported by Agog: The Immersive Media Institute, the home distribution programme lets audiences experience the films without visiting the museum in Chicago or accessing a traveling Mobile VR Trunk. All three films are free to download on Meta Quest 3 and Quest 3S. The museum’s release also describes versions for Pico 4 Ultra and Samsung Galaxy AndroidXR headsets, to be distributed through Google Play later in autumn 2026.

Quotes

“These three films exemplify how virtual reality can transform historical learning. We have seen firsthand how these films engage diverse audiences, serving as a universal bridge to complex and often distant histories”

“Everyone at East City Films is thrilled that the three VR films we created with the Illinois Holocaust Museum will now reach a much wider audience. At a time of increasing global conflict and divisive rhetoric, the stories of Marion Deichmann, Rodi Glass and Doris Fogel remind us of our shared humanity and the importance of continuing to listen to those who experienced the Holocaust first-hand”
