IndiGo, the largest airline in India, has signed an agreement with Skywise, a digital services company wholly owned by Airbus, to deploy the A320 Virtual Procedure Trainer (VPT) for pilot training. IndiGo is reported as the first airline worldwide to adopt the VPT abnormal and emergency procedure package.
The VPT is cloud-based software that uses virtual reality and flat-screen devices. It is designed to bridge ground-school theory and Full Flight Simulator sessions, giving pilots an accessible, self-paced way to practise procedures.
Scale and rollout
The deployment is at the announcement stage: the agreement has been signed, and the sources do not confirm that training is yet operating. IndiGo plans to train up to 1,000 pilots annually, which Laranews reports as the reason the airline wanted an agile, scalable training solution.
Context and aims
IndiGo's Senior Vice President of Flight Operations, Capt. Ashim Mittra, says the trainer strengthens the airline's end-to-end digital training ecosystem and supports consistent, Airbus OEM-aligned training standards for a new generation of pilots. Skywise says the package builds on IndiGo's existing use of the Skywise MATe Suite and completes an immersive, OEM-standard training ecosystem. These are statements from the parties to the agreement, not measured results.
