International Audio-Visual Arts Carnival poster for the XR audiovisual immersive experience, seated VR, 23-27 September 2026, Baimeihui Cinema Hall 5, Jing'an Kerry Centre

The Jing'an District Culture and Tourism Bureau, working with the Shanghai International Film & TV Festival Center, set up a seated VR screening venue at the Baimeihui Cinema in Jing'an Kerry Centre during the district's audio-visual arts carnival.

The aim is to bring new audio-visual formats into everyday city life and to explore new ways of using a cinema, with audiences experiencing narrative content in headsets rather than on a screen.

Seated VR at the cinema

From 23 to 27 September 2026, the Baimeihui Cinema opened several of its halls as an XR audio-visual venue focused on seated VR. Audiences wore headsets to watch VR narrative works, including live-action VR pieces and a Venice Film Festival selection, and could use hand tracking during the screenings.
