Limerick City and County Council launched an interactive virtual reality tour of the full 40 km Limerick Greenway on 26 February 2026. The experience lets prospective visitors explore the route from Rathkeale to Abbeyfeale, passing through Ardagh, Newcastle West and Templeglantine. It is intended to support trip planning and give people who cannot physically travel the route another way to experience it.
The tour is accessible through VR headsets, mobile devices and web platforms. Global Virtual Asset Management (VAM) Ltd. worked with the Council's Tourism Department to map and capture the route in 360 degrees over eight months. The project also includes immersive experiences from more than 20 locations and attractions across Limerick City and County, including King John's Castle, Ballyhoura Mountain Bike Trail and Adare.
The Council officially launched the project at the Limerick IT Summit 2026 at the Dell Technologies Campus. Director General Pat Daly described it as a way for overseas audiences to explore Limerick before travelling, with the Ryder Cup coming to Adare in 2027 providing a further opportunity to encourage visitors to discover the county and plan longer stays.
