Belfast’s Lyric Theatre has made its L-Acoustics L-ISA immersive audio system a permanent part of its Main Stage auditorium. First introduced in late 2025 for the world premiere of John Morton’s Denouement, directed by Jimmy Fay, the system supports spatial sound for theatrical storytelling. L-Acoustics reported the decision in April 2026 as the theatre marked its 75th anniversary.
Permanent installation
The theatre worked with L-Acoustics Certified Provider Forfey and application engineer Oli Crump on the deployment. Forfey used L-Acoustics Soundvision to model coverage across the seating area before installation. The permanent system described by L-Acoustics in April 2026 runs on a Milan-AVB network and includes:
- A10 arrays and extensions, with KS21 subwoofers.
- Five 5XT front-fill speakers and X6i balcony fills.
- Two LA7.16i and one LA1.16i amplified controllers, alongside two LA2Xi units.
Production plans
In the supplier’s account, Lyric Theatre Deputy Technical Manager Ian Vennard said the spatial audio had enhanced Denouement’s emotionally charged narrative enough for the theatre to retain the system. He also described a commitment to build every production from 2026 onwards around L-ISA from the ground up.
