Mahanadi Coalfields Limited introduced a VR safety and operational training programme for its mining workforce in Odisha, India. The July 2023 government announcement set a target of around 17,000 departmental and contract employees by 2026, covering 18 modules with an earmarked budget of ₹6.5 crore. CHRP-INDIA, formally Concoct Human Resource Practitioners, was selected through competitive Government e-Marketplace procurement to build the simulated environments and run training.
Exercises cover blasting, mine inspection, electrical safety, working at height, traffic and engine or transmission maintenance. The simulations allow personnel to rehearse dangerous situations without recreating the hazards physically. MCL’s chairman later stated that VR training commenced in December 2023, distinguishing delivery from the earlier announcement.
CHRP-INDIA’s May 2026 release reports more than 17,000 mining professionals trained across multiple operational sites. Its dedicated case study, updated in August 2026, describes site-specific simulations and safety modules aligned with Directorate General of Mines Safety requirements. These are supplier-reported delivery results; the sources do not provide a controlled evaluation or a quantified reduction in accidents.
