Fundación MarViva, a marine conservation nonprofit, is touring SUMERGIDOS, an interactive immersive installation that uses projection and motion sensing to bring ocean biodiversity to the public. It ran first at Museo de los Niños in San José, Costa Rica, from 22 to 24 October 2026, and opened at the Panamá Viejo archaeological site in Panama City on 28 October, running to 1 November 2026. MarViva presents it as a way to use science and technology to spark curiosity and strengthen public understanding of why protecting the ocean matters.
How the installation works
According to Panamanian press coverage, the installation combines laser projection, ambient lighting, scientific animations and motion sensors so visitors can interact with the images. Visitors' movements make the projections reveal layers of water and trigger information about marine biodiversity. A companion 360-degree digital exploration is reachable from visitors' phones through QR codes. Teletica reported that a visit lasts about eight to ten minutes.
