A gallery at Museu de Alberto Sampaio, one of the museums participating in the MuseusPortugal augmented reality programme.

Museu de Alberto Sampaio in Guimarães, Portugal, offers augmented and virtual reality visitor resources through the MuseusPortugal programme. The museum is part of the first implementation phase, which brings digital interpretation to cultural spaces and collections.

Using a smartphone or tablet app, visitors can view interactive images overlaid on their surroundings. At points of interest, spaces, artworks and artefacts provide access to text, video, photographs and volumetric 3D objects, accompanied by a virtual robot guide.

MuseusPortugal also connects physical cultural spaces with digital recreations through 360-degree video and photography and 3D planning. The programme results from a partnership between Direção Regional de Cultura do Norte and DKS Studios, with support from Programa Garantir Cultura.
