Museu RTP in Lisbon introduced augmented and virtual reality experiences to help visitors explore RTP's first outside broadcast vehicle, which served between 1957 and 1980. A February 2018 RTP report described both experiences as available to visitors, bringing a digital reconstruction of the vehicle into the museum's interpretation of broadcasting history.
The augmented reality experience uses smartphones or tablets to display a three-dimensional vehicle that visitors can walk around, enter and interact with. Touch controls let them open doors and storage compartments; the app also describes switching on the lights and taking photographs. The museum provides tablets for a larger-scale experience on site, while the RTP Museu Realidade Aumentada app supports smaller-scale exploration elsewhere using a printed marker.
The virtual reality experience described in the 2018 report was available exclusively at the museum, using smartphones and VR glasses. Visitors could view a three-dimensional digital model of the vehicle's interior and take a 360-degree virtual ride through the RTP grounds.
