The Museum of the Communist Party of China in Beijing operates a "4D + six-sided" immersive cinema for its visitors. The cinema recreates scenes from the Long March. The museum opened to the public on 15 July 2021, and Xinhua's coverage from that month describes the cinema as part of the exhibition hall.
How the cinema works
The installation is built from six giant LED screens and one interactive platform. Its films recreate episodes of the Long March, including the battle at the Xiang River, the forced crossing of the Wu River, the seizing of the Luding Bridge, the climb over snow mountains and the crossing of the grasslands.
- Six LED screens surround the audience with the scenes.
- One interactive platform completes the viewing space.
- A self-developed smart cloud control system triggers environmental effects such as wind, snow and cold air to heighten the sense of being present.
Reported screening in 2026
A PLA Daily report from October 2026 describes an immersive cinema in the museum's second-floor atrium screening a Long March film to many visitors, including foreign visitors. The report does not name the installation, but it appears to be the same cinema.
