Nanhua University runs a university social responsibility (USR) programme, "Yunshui Book Cart on the Move", that takes AR interactive picture books, VR and digital creation activities into kindergartens in Chiayi, Taiwan. The programme aims to widen multi-sensory learning for young children, and the university's president describes it as a way to turn the university's cross-disciplinary expertise into learning content for children in areas with scarce educational resources.

The team has combined early childhood education, music, design and digital technology, and added robot applications this year (2026). The source does not say when the programme began.

Recent sessions

  • The team showed AR picture books, VR and interactive robots at a parent-teacher meeting at Dongrong Elementary School.
  • On 19 September the team visited Xikou Township Public Kindergarten, inviting children and parents to try AR picture books and VR together. Children were especially surprised to see their own drawings turned into a virtual world.

Equipment

Photos from the programme show a child using a white standalone VR headset with a hand controller, and a child pointing a smartphone at a picture book for the AR experience. The headset model is not identified in the source.

Aims

Nanhua's Vice President Lai Shu-ling says technology is meant as a key to children's interest in learning: starting from a picture book and extending to AR, VR, robots and creative activities, so that children step into stories, operate them and go on to create their own.

The source is a press report of the programme's recent activities; it gives no attendance figures or learning outcomes.

Quotes

“Technology is not the purpose of this programme but a key that opens children's interest in learning. We hope that, with the university's expertise and resources, starting from a picture book and extending to AR, VR, robots and creative activities, children will not only "watch stories" but step into them, operate them and go on to create their own stories.”

“An important feature of "Yunshui Book Cart on the Move" is that Fo Guang Shan, to make up for scarce educational resources in remote areas, turns the university's cross-disciplinary expertise into learning content suited to children. The team keeps integrating early childhood education, music, design and digital technology, and this year adds robot applications, so that a picture book is no longer a single teaching material but a learning vehicle linking reading, art, technology, creation and interactive experience.”
