Prime Ministers Museum and Library (PMML) is adding augmented and virtual reality astronomy experiences at Nehru Planetarium in the Teen Murti Bhawan complex, New Delhi. The project aims to make astronomy accessible to students and the public as part of a broader refurbishment of exhibitions, projection and visitor facilities. Reporting on 9 September 2026 described new AR and VR shows as introduced while trials and additional features were still underway.
The National Science Centre, Delhi had tendered a dedicated VR zone for this venue in April 2025. Its design brief called for a virtual spaceship journey through nebulae, galaxies and the solar system, with bilingual animated 3D content. It specified four visitor places, four active headsets plus one spare, and a control computer supporting either synchronized group playback or independent playback. These are procurement requirements; the available launch evidence does not confirm the supplier, final hardware or delivered configuration.
The new experiences sit alongside the planetarium’s established astronomy education programme and full-dome theatre. The client’s current visitor page describes the Aryabhata Gallery and 2D/3D dome capability but lists only 2D programmes in its timetable. Evidence therefore supports an introduced experience under trial, without establishing the first day of regular public AR/VR operation. No measured XR-specific attendance or learning results have been reported in the reviewed sources.
