Nevada State Police has announced plans to introduce virtual reality training for de-escalation and critical incidents. On March 31, 2026, Representatives Susie Lee and Steven Horsford joined the agency’s Highway Patrol to announce $360,000 in federal funding for the purchase of four VR training systems. The announcement establishes a funded plan; an operational start date has not been confirmed.
The planned systems will let academy cadets and serving officers rehearse confrontations in virtual scenarios, including using replica duty weapons and tasers that operate within the virtual environment. The objective is to prepare officers to respond with the least force necessary while maintaining officer safety.
The funding disclosure describes portable equipment that can be taken to Nevada State Police divisions, allowing officers to train at their base locations across the state. This supports both academy and in-service training.
