Quake - Museu do Terramoto de Lisboa uses an earthquake simulator, video mapping and special effects to let visitors experience a recreation of Lisbon’s 1755 earthquake in a safe environment. The museum is located in Belém, Lisbon, and offers advance booking for visitors.

The experience connects the events of 1 November 1755 with earthquake preparedness today. Alongside explaining the historical disaster, Quake aims to encourage preventive measures, introduce existing civil protection plans and promote individual responsibility for a safer society.

Quotes

“Quake recreates Lisbon in 1755 and simulates the great earthquake that destroyed the city. All the information is conveyed interactively, making it a fun way to learn about the context of the time, the consequences of the earthquake and the reconstruction of Lisbon. I recommend a visit!”

“So much history, so much interaction. We left much better informed about the earthquake and about what to do in a seismic emergency. I recommend it to young and old.”
