The Saudi Pro League (SPL), the governing body of Saudi Arabia's top football league, has agreed a three-season partnership with immersive media company L1VE. L1VE is entitled to stream one selected Roshn Saudi League (RSL) match per matchday immersively and live to audiences worldwide across the 2026/27, 2027/28 and 2028/29 seasons.
The aim is to let international fans take virtual seats in the stadium and watch matches together with friends and other fans, wherever they are. According to the announcement, it would be the first time an entire league season can be experienced immersively, matchday after matchday.
How it works
The experience is built on L1VE's "Social Presence" technology, which delivers the stadium experience in stereoscopic 360-degree 3D. Fans access it through the L1VE app on a compatible VR headset. Supported devices include headsets from Meta Quest, Apple Vision Pro and Pico, depending on the model and its platform compatibility.
Timing
The launch is planned for February 2027, in the second half of the 2026/27 RSL season. The service has been announced but is not yet operating.
Stated intent
L1VE's Chief Commercial Officer, David Morgenbesser, says leagues and rights holders are looking for new ways to engage international fan bases and open up additional revenue models, and that the partnership is a step toward establishing immersive live sport as a new category globally.
