The Tourismusgemeinschaft Mythos Schwäbische Alb, a tourism association in the Reutlingen district of Germany, has launched a free smartphone app that lets visitors explore the history and sights of seven participating towns and regions on the Swabian Alb. The app combines interactive content, historical images, audio and augmented reality, and aims to give guests a contemporary way to discover local stories on site.
The association initiated the joint project and supported the participating partners in implementing it. A marketing grant from the Schwäbische Alb Tourismusverband e.V. made the project possible.
How it works
Users get new insights into each participating place through interactive content, historical images and audio contributions. A particular feature lets visitors compare historical views with a location's present-day appearance directly on site using augmented reality. The app is free, needs no registration, and is available for iOS and Android.
Participating places
- Bad Urach
- Münsingen
- Hayingen
- Lichtenstein
- Sonnenbühl
- Zwiefalten
- Region am Heidengraben
Sarah Reinhardt, managing director of the association, said the project is meant to give the member municipalities a contemporary way to present their stories and sights digitally, and to make the touristic diversity of the Swabian Alb visible to guests.
