Taoyuan City Government's Youth Affairs Bureau is using VR and AR games to introduce young people and residents to the city's history and local culture. Its “RE: Taoyuan, Log Back into the Local!” exhibition runs at the Andong Youth Startup Base from 12 October to 11 December 2026, according to a 13 October report by Dot Media carried on Yam News.

The exhibition brings together three interactive experiences:

  • Yuan Ze University's Department of Art and Design team, led by teacher 羅嘉惠, created 《溪遊記:大溪歷史街屋虛擬解謎—蘭室篇》, a VR puzzle game set in the historic Lan Room street house on Daxi Old Street. Visitors explore Daxi's history through virtual puzzles.
  • 聚樂邦 (致樂創意股份有限公司) provides 《嵿嵿大百貨》, an AR game that presents local issues through interaction.
  • 發霸科技股份有限公司 provides 《籃中食光》, an AR game in which visitors draw Taoyuan-themed images and participate in real-time interaction.

The bureau describes the exhibition as a way to make emerging technology more accessible and to support cultural preservation and local revitalization. Schools, groups and residents are invited to book visits and explore Taoyuan through the games.

Quotes

“Technology is not only a tool for innovative development, but can also become a new medium for cultural preservation and local revitalization. The Youth Affairs Bureau continues to promote XR technology applications through the Andong Youth Start-up Hub, encouraging young people to combine innovative technologies with everyday life and local culture. This exhibition takes “logging back into the local” as its concept, using games and immersive experiences so that visitors do more than simply view the exhibition: through interaction, they can learn about Taoyuan’s history and cultural characteristics.”

“We hope to use XR technology to lower the threshold for the public to encounter emerging technologies, and also enable local culture to be understood and passed on in a more vivid and interesting way. Schools at all levels, groups and members of the public are welcome to book a visit and explore Taoyuan’s different facets together through technology.”
