TAP pilots AR guidance and photo records for engine maintenance

Technicians consult inspection forms through a headset, check engine components and capture photographs during a receive-in maintenance trial.

TAP Maintenance & Engineering tested KIT-AR augmented reality in engine maintenance in Portugal. A TVI report shared by the supplier shows technicians using a headset to consult inspection information and document checks. KIT-AR identifies the application as a receive-in workflow.

What technicians do

The footage shows a Magic Leap 2 headset and digital forms over the technician’s view of physical equipment. The interface provides:

  • Component checks: view items requiring verification.
  • Inspection records: enter part and serial numbers, comments and exceptions.
  • Photo evidence: capture component photographs, save a draft and confirm the record.

Purpose and trial status

The aim is to make maintenance guidance, verification and documentation easier within the task. A technician explains that the headset replaces consulting paper. The report places the work in the engine-disassembly area and explicitly describes it as still in testing.

KIT-AR’s official Vimeo upload dates the TVI/CNN-Portugal report to 9 April 2026. This establishes a documented trial by that date, not its start date. The supplier’s LinkedIn posts followed on 17 April.

Results and next steps

No deployment-specific performance measurements or subsequent production rollout were established. The report discusses the supplier’s automotive AI inspection experience as an opportunity for TAP; it does not demonstrate those automated checks operating in this trial.
