VLEC - Entornos Virtuales para la Ensenanza Clinica del Derecho (Virtual Environments for Clinical Legal Teaching) is a teaching resource of the Departamento de Ensenanza Clinica del Derecho at the Facultad de Derecho of the Universidad de Chile. The project site states it was developed under the faculty's agreement with CAF, the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean.
Law students rehearse clinical-legal exercises in simulated environments delivered both in virtual reality and through a web platform, and receive automated feedback on their spoken performance. Two modules are offered. Litigante (one-to-many) places the speaker in a courtroom in front of a judge and an audience, training projection, pace and oral argument in conditions close to a hearing or trial, with real-time feedback and later analysis on the web platform. Entrevistador (one-to-one) places the student-lawyer in an interview room with a simulated client, developing active listening, clarity and control of the dialogue at first contact.
Both modes follow a plan-practise-reflect cycle: the student sets a concrete goal before entering the simulation, runs the exercise in a safe environment, then reviews feedback and metrics on a dashboard. The speech analysis reports four indicators - speed (words per minute and rhythm consistency, indicative range 140-180 wpm), clarity (speech-recognition confidence as a proxy for intelligibility), volume (RMS vocal energy for projection) and fluency (detection of filler words, prolongations, repetitions and pauses). The project states the metrics complement rather than replace teacher judgement, and that they support the faculty's declared competency in effective language for persuasion and negotiation. The browser build embeds a Unity WebGL runtime, evident in the page source; no engine, headset model or delivery method is stated for the VR mode.
The build was entrusted to a legal-technical team of the Departamento de Ensenanza Clinica del Derecho directed by professor Roberto Contreras Puelles, with research assistants Carolina Cornejo Rojas, Aaron Acevedo Barriga, Javiera Duran Alfaro, Florencia Espinoza Gonzalez, Ignacio Rojas Palomino, Laura Flores Garate and Montserrat Norambuena Zapata. The faculty's own newsroom independently confirms the project on 18 March 2026, describing VLEC as virtual environments for clinical legal teaching that simulate virtual twins of legal practice using digital tools and artificial intelligence to improve oral expression, legal argument and litigation. The project site's collaborator strip credits four organisations: the Facultad de Derecho, CAF, Multiversica and AugExp; no independent source names a supplier.
Dates and scale are not established. The platform is live and account-gated, with session history for students and a dashboard for teachers, and the faculty describes the project as an existing initiative, but no launch date, cohort size, course list or published results were found, and the CAF agreement is stated only by the project itself.
