The Terres de l'Ebre Campus of Universitat Rovira i Virgili (URV) is testing three virtual reality experiences to help its community understand how sexual harassment is experienced. The scenes place students and members of the university community in typical situations in academic and work environments.
The activity, titled "If you don't live it, you don't feel it", invites participants to put on virtual reality glasses and observe situations of sexual harassment and gender violence. The scenes are projected so that users do not simply watch from the outside but perceive the discomfort from the point of view of the affected person.
Development and offer
The company V-Tools, responsible for development, designed the three experiences for the educational community. Its developers are also working on a proposal aimed at the corporate world. The activity is offered as an open proposal to students and all members of the campus university community.
Stage and background
The project is described as a test, so it is treated here as a pilot. The activity had already been carried out previously in Tarragona; the source gives no dates for either run. Elisabet Torrubia, the campus equality officer and a nursing professor, has argued that virtual reality can help work on social and ethical issues that affect all areas of life.
