World Taekwondo’s Virtual Taekwondo is scheduled to make its Asian Games medal-event debut at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Games in Japan. The programme lists the competition for 2 October 2026 at Toyohashi City General Gymnasium. As of 7 September, this is an announced deployment; the Games have not yet opened.

Athletes compete without physical contact by moving their bodies to control avatars in a virtual arena. VR headsets and body-worn motion sensors translate kicks into the digital match, while spectators follow the avatars on a display. The Virtual Taekwondo platform integrates the AXIS motion-capture system, developed by Refract. It is designed to make competition less dependent on competitors’ physical size while retaining the need for technique, timing and fitness.

The Olympic Council of Asia approved the discipline for the Games, and the organiser’s sports programme lists a mixed individual event. Earlier appearances at Olympic Esports Week and the World Championships establish the sport’s development, but are separate deployments.
