The Xixia Mausoleum Scenic Area in Yinchuan has added a virtual reality demonstration device that blends digital reconstructions with the real ruins, so visitors can take in the site's historical and cultural value in an immersive way. The device was developed by a team led by Liu Jian of the Institute of Architectural History at China Architecture Design & Research Group.
The VR device is one part of the team's wider interpretation work at the site. Liu describes the problem this work addresses: much of the structural and formal information at the ruins has been lost, and while specialists can infer it, ordinary visitors find it hard to imagine how the site originally looked. He frames heritage interpretation as a popular translation of value information for ordinary visitors.
Exhibition hall display
A separate report on the 2026 National Day holiday says visitors to the scenic area can try an interactive 3D digital display in the exhibition hall to learn the history. That report does not describe how the display works, and it is not shown to be connected to the VR device.
