Immersive Environmental Education

The Espace Mer et Littoral, located in the historic La Batterie du Graillon, serves as a digital hub for environmental awareness. The installation allows visitors to explore four distinct Mediterranean ecosystems—Posidonia seagrass meadows, sandy seabeds, coral reefs, and open water—through a combination of interactive video projections and virtual reality.

Technical Implementation

  • Virtual Reality: A multi-user VR experience powered by the HTC Vive Focus 3 enables visitors to simulate a deep-sea dive, exploring the seabed in a 9-minute immersive session designed for up to eight spectators simultaneously.
  • Interactive Installations: The space features four interactive video projection installations and one passive installation, all unified by a single content platform developed in Unreal Engine.
  • Accessibility & Engagement: The project includes five interactive tablets and three information screens to provide deeper context. Notably, a dedicated tablet for people with reduced mobility (PMR) ensures that all visitors can access the virtual experiences of the fort.

This project highlights the power of combining edutainment with high-fidelity spatial computing to foster nature conservation awareness.
