Background

Virtuix Holdings Inc. (NASDAQ: VTIX), an Austin, Texas manufacturer of full-body simulation systems, has sold an Omni One Enterprise system to Tesla's Optimus humanoid robot division. The purchase was announced on 27 July 2026 and is the company's first confirmed enterprise sale into a humanoid robotics programme.

The Omni One is an omnidirectional treadmill: a compact, disc-shaped base that lets an operator walk, run and turn a full 360 degrees inside a virtual environment while remaining physically stationary. Virtuix built the platform for consumer VR gaming before shifting its roadmap towards enterprise and defence customers.

The deployment

Inside the Optimus division, the treadmill serves as a low-latency, human-in-the-loop interface for robotic teleoperation. Real-time human movement is translated into remote machine action, which Virtuix says allows engineers to accelerate robot training, motion calibration and human-robot collaboration workflows in complex manufacturing settings.

The enterprise configuration differs from the consumer unit in its data layer rather than its mechanics. It adds:

  • advanced telemetry logging
  • precise ergonomics tracking
  • custom API integrations for third-party toolchains

Together these let developers measure operator fatigue, evaluate teleoperation latency, and run repeatable scenario tests for humanoid platforms without the physical risk of open-floor movement.

Why a treadmill

For robotics developers the Omni addresses a specific bottleneck: capturing natural, continuous human biomechanics safely in a controlled space. Recording locomotion conventionally requires floor area proportional to the movement being captured, whereas an omnidirectional treadmill lets an operator generate unlimited walking and turning data inside a fixed, compact footprint.

Scale and status

The deployment is a single system entering Tesla's R&D framework rather than a production rollout. Virtuix has framed it as a proof point it hopes to convert into multi-unit deployments across logistics, healthcare and defence, and says it is expanding manufacturing capacity and its developer toolkit to meet enterprise demand.

The announcement came from Virtuix rather than from Tesla, and Tesla has not publicly commented on the purchase.
