Background

Vodacom World, the largest technology and telecommunications mall in South Africa, ran an Augmented Reality Easter Egg Hunt at its Midrand flagship during the final days of the 2026 Easter period. The four-day activation ran from 22 to 25 April 2026, from 9am to 5pm daily.

The Deployment

Using mobile augmented reality technology, visitors physically explored the Vodacom World mall to hunt for virtual Easter eggs overlaid on the physical environment. The experience blended digital innovation with tangible in-store engagement, driving foot traffic to the retail site at 082 Vodacom Boulevard, Midrand.

Prizes and Engagement

A prize pool totalling R250,000 included smartphones, tablets, laptops, televisions, gaming consoles, smart appliances, data bundles, and airtime. To extend reach beyond on-site visitors, Vodacom World broadcast egg-location clues across its X, Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok channels, allowing followers to plan visits strategically.

Context

Vodacom World positions the activation as part of its forward-thinking approach to customer relationship management through experiential technology. The mall is described as the only technology and telecommunications mall in South Africa, and features a Business Experience Centre and Connection Lab spaces for SMEs and startups, alongside retail ecosystems from major consumer electronics brands.
