Virtual Osaka Castle recreation by HTC Viverse

HTC's Viverse platform unveiled Samurai's Dream: The Ghosts of Osaka Castle, an immersive VR experience that reconstructs the legendary fortress of Toyotomi Hideyoshi during Japan's Warring States period. Co-produced with Japanese broadcast and media partners NHK, NHK Promotions, and NTT Docomo Studio & Live, the project represents HTC's first international co-production with Japanese organisations. The experience leverages Viverse's precise spatial positioning technology to allow users to move freely through the virtual environment rather than being restricted to passive viewpoints. Users are transported across different eras of the castle's history, exploring spaces that no longer exist in their original form and encountering cultural storytelling tied to one of Japan's most significant historical sites. Lin Chun-wu, General Manager of Viverse, described the project as part of a broader evolution in immersive entertainment — from watching content to physically inhabiting stories. The collaboration reflects a growing appetite for culturally grounded XR content produced through cross-border partnerships, with HTC and its Japanese co-producers bringing different broadcast and technology capabilities to a shared creative vision.
