CEA Tech's Y.SPOT innovation centre in Grenoble, France is home to SIRCE — the Smart Immersive Room for Circular-vision Experiment — a bespoke stereoscopic CAVE designed to deliver collaborative 3D visualization experiences. The installation was conceived and integrated by MPM Equipement, a French audiovisual specialist, with scenography and engineering handled by CREATIME.
SIRCE comprises four synchronized display surfaces — three inward-tilted walls angled at 26 degrees and a floor — powered by five Digital Projection E-Vision Laser 10K projectors. Each projector delivers 10,500 lumens of laser illumination, with a rated lifespan of over 20,000 hours. A dual-pipe configuration drives two 120Hz video streams to alternate left and right eye feeds, while XPAND 3D active glasses complete the stereoscopic effect.
Content is managed through Derivative's TouchDesigner platform, orchestrating eight virtual cameras — two per surface — placed 6.5 centimetres apart to replicate human interpupillary distance. This enables orthostereoscopy, convincing viewers they inhabit spaces far larger than the installation's five square metre base.
The room can accommodate five to ten simultaneous users, with a maximum of 25, supporting use cases from 3D design reviews to virtual conferences. The project was completed despite COVID-19-related delays.
